Two miles long and nearly a thousand feet deep, Tallulah Gorge is the North Georgia mountains at their most dramatic — six waterfalls stepping down the river and a suspension bridge swaying eighty feet above the rocks.
It's a 20-minute drive from our Clayton cabins, which makes it an easy morning out with the afternoon left for the porch.

Where It Is
US-441 south from Clayton, then follow signs for the Jane Hurt Yarn Interpretive Center. Parking fills by 10am on fall weekends.
What to expect
- North and South Rim trails — about 3 miles round trip with overlooks at every waterfall
- The suspension bridge, 80 feet above the river, on the Hurricane Falls loop
- Gorge-floor access limited to 100 permits a day — arrive at opening to get one
- Interpretive center with the gorge's history and a short film

- Over 1,000 stairs on the Hurricane Falls loop — real shoes, not sandals
- Whitewater release weekends in April and November draw big crowds
- Restrooms and water at the interpretive center only

How far is Tallulah Gorge from Clayton, GA?
About 12 miles south on US-441 — a 20-minute drive from downtown Clayton and from our cabins in Tiger.
Do I need a permit to hike Tallulah Gorge?
Only for the gorge floor. The park issues 100 free permits a day at the interpretive center, first come, first served. The rim trails and the suspension bridge need no permit.
Is Tallulah Gorge good for kids?
The rim overlooks are easy and stroller-friendly. The Hurricane Falls loop has over a thousand stairs, so it suits older kids who can handle a workout.
Can I bring my dog?
Leashed dogs are welcome on the rim trails but not the gorge floor. Both of our Clayton cabins are pet-friendly.
